After graduating from high school in Bogen, Munteanu moved to Munich and enrolled at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. In 2014, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports, Media, and Event Management with a thesis on the structure and organization of boxing in Germany.

Director Sylvester Stallone cast the Romanian bodybuilder based on his audition via Skype. To prepare for the role, Munteanu underwent rigorous training, shedding 25 pounds and learning Russian.
