Biography of France Gall

France Gall was a French pop singer and the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. She was born into a musical family, with her father Robert Gall being a songwriter for Charles Aznavour and Edith Piaf, and her mother Cecile Berthier being a singer. In her teenage years, she formed a musical group with her brothers. At the age of 15, she released her first album. Her debut single "Ne sois pas si bête" was a resounding success, as were her subsequent songs, which appeared innocent at first glance but had erotic undertones, written by Serge Gainsbourg.

Representing Luxembourg, she won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 with the song "Poupée de cire, poupée de son". In the same year, she was invited by Walt Disney to play the lead role in the musical film "Alice in Wonderland". However, the project was not realized due to the death of the renowned animator. From 1966 to 1972, she worked in Germany, performing songs in German. She achieved third place at the German Schlager Contest in 1969 and 1970. In 1970, she ranked second, and in 1969 and 1971, she ranked third among the best female singers of the year according to a survey by the magazine "BRAVO".

Starting from the 1980s, she actively engaged in various charitable programs and spent a considerable amount of time in Senegal. Currently, she dedicates her efforts to helping homeless women. At the "Congratulations" concert in 2005, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, her song "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" ranked 14th among the best Eurovision hits of all time.

Passing Away

In February 2016, France Gall was hospitalized for 9 days due to "drug intolerance". During the examination, kidney dysfunction and signs of heart failure were discovered. On December 27, 2017, the radio station Ici Paris announced her admission to the intensive care unit of an American hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, where France Gall passed away on the morning of January 7, 2018. "It is a shock because she was so reserved that we did not know about her illness," said Yves Offer in that day.

"France, we were 20 years old, and there were joys and sorrows. A part of my life goes away with you. Julien," wrote Julien Clerc on Twitter.
