Biography of Francis Kittinger

Francis Anthony Kittinger was born on February 10, 1944 in St. Louis, USA. He is a prominent American political figure who served as the governor of Oklahoma. Kittinger grew up in a strict Catholic family and was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after his family relocated there when he was an infant.

Education and Early Career

Kittinger completed his education at Cascia Hall, a preparatory school in Tulsa. In 1962, he graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., majoring in history. After Georgetown, Kittinger decided to return to Oklahoma and enrolled in the University of Oklahoma College of Law. In 1969, he earned a Juris Doctor degree.

Following his law degree, Kittinger embarked on his career as a lawyer. He joined the FBI as a special agent and worked on cases on the West Coast. After a few years with the FBI, Kittinger returned to Oklahoma and served as an assistant district attorney. In 1973, he joined the Republican Party and was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Two years later, he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate.

Political Career and Leadership

From 1975 to 1981, Kittinger served in the Oklahoma Senate and was re-elected for a second term in 1978. During his time in office, Kittinger emerged as one of the most influential politicians in Oklahoma. His opinions were highly regarded by many influential individuals, and he became the leader of the state's Republican Party. From 1981 to 1985, Kittinger served as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma, earning the support of both his constituents and President Ronald Reagan.

After his role as U.S. Attorney, Kittinger was appointed to various positions, including serving in the Department of Justice and becoming a Consul General in 1990. He went on to serve as the governor of Oklahoma for two terms, cementing his significance in the state and national politics. Kittinger remains a staunch supporter of Republican ideals and currently holds the position of President and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers.
