Francisco García Ayuso
Early Life and EducationFrancisco García Ayuso was a renowned Spanish scholar born in Madrid in 1835. He pursued his higher education in prestigious German universities, laying the foundation for his future academic pursuits.
Philological Works
Ayuso made significant contributions to the field of philology. In 1871, he published "El estudio de la filologia en su velacion con el sanskrit," a comprehensive encyclopedia on linguistics. Following this, he penned "Ensayo critico de gramatica comparada de los idiomas indo-europeos" (1877-1879), a comparative study of numerous Indo-European languages, including Sanskrit, Zend, Latin, Greek, and Slavic tongues.
Sanskrit Translations
Ayuso was also an accomplished translator of Sanskrit literature. He brought to light the works of Kalidasa, translating "Vikramorvasi," "Kalidatta," and "Sakuntala" (1873 and 1875). His translations were accompanied by insightful introductions that shed light on the intricacies of Indian theater.
