Early Career

Franck Perera began his racing career in the GP2 Series, driving for DAMS in 2006. Prior to that, he had spent four years competing in junior championships with Prema.

Atlantic Championship and Champ Car World Series

In 2007, Perera switched to the Atlantic Championship, driving for Condor Motorsports. He achieved three victories and finished second to Raphael Matos in the championship standings. The following year, he signed with Conquest Racing to compete in the Champ Car World Series after successful testing with the team.

IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights

However, the Champ Car and Indy Racing League series merged, resulting in the cancellation of the Champ Car season. Perera's contract was extended, and he joined the IRL IndyCar Series. Financial issues caused him to miss three races, which were filled by Brazilian driver Jaime Camara.

To continue racing in the United States, Perera signed with Guthrie Racing to compete in the Firestone Indy Lights series in 2008. He made his debut at the seventh race of the season at Iowa Speedway. Perera claimed his first victory, starting from pole position at Infineon Raceway in only his eighth start.

Return to IndyCar Series and Superleague Formula

Perera returned to the IndyCar Series, scoring points at Chicagoland Speedway in the #41 A.J. Foyt Enterprises car. He also signed with AS Roma's team for the inaugural Superleague Formula championship in 2008.

GP2 Return

In 2009, Perera returned to GP2, replacing Giacomo Ricci at David Price Racing. However, he was excluded from the opening race in Hungary as a result of an incident with Romain Grosjean. The stewards determined that his lap time was outside the 107% threshold, while Grosjean was allowed to start.
