Jean Mabillon
Early Life and EducationJean Mabillon was born in Saint-Pierremont, France, in 1632. At the age of 20, he took monastic vows in the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris. He spent the next decade teaching philosophy and theology at the monastery's renowned school.
Restoration of Ancient Texts
In 1640, Mabillon moved to Paris and became a preacher at a local monastery. He embarked on a mission to restore the authentic texts of the Greek Church Fathers. With government support, he spent over 50 years meticulously examining and editing manuscripts.
