François Jullien (born 1951) is a renowned French philosopher, sinologist, and translator of Chinese philosophy.

Education and Career

Jullien studied at the prestigious École Normale Supérieure from 1972 to 1977. He subsequently pursued his studies at the universities of Beijing and Shanghai. In 1983, he earned his doctorate in philology.

Jullien has held prestigious fellowships, including the French-Japanese House Fellowship in Tokyo from 1985 to 1987. He has served as the President of the French Association for Sinological Studies from 1988 to 1990 and President of the International College of Philosophy from 1995 to 1998.

Currently, Jullien teaches at the University of Paris VII - Denis Diderot. He also serves as the Director of the Marcel Granet Center and the Institute for Contemporary Thought.

Philosophical Contributions

Jullien's work focuses on the comparative study of Chinese and European intellectual traditions. He explores topics such as anthropology, ethics, and the philosophy of images. His writings have contributed significantly to the understanding of both Western and Eastern thought.
