Early Life

Frank Aiello began his career as a mafia member under the patronage of Don Giuseppe Balzamo in Little Italy. Like all members of the Italian-American group, he was a pure-blooded Sicilian born in America. At the age of 18, he committed his first murder.

Prohibition

In 1919, Prohibition was enacted, known as the "Dry Law." Frank Aiello decided not to risk creating his own illegal distilleries and instead limited himself to delivering alcohol to consumers. One cold winter night in 1918, a ten-year-old boy was selling newspapers in a kiosk outside a restaurant. By nightfall, the newspaper stacks had not decreased, despite the fact that everything should have been sold. The weather was terrible, and the streets were empty. Frank Aiello approached the boy and handed him a crisp fifty-dollar bill, telling him to buy the contents of the kiosk and then ordered, "Go home to your mother."

The Supplier

The supplier of "firewater" was found in Detroit. The Michigan gangsters were well-known large-scale producers of alcohol. Their whiskey was considered the best produced in the United States. The Detroit gang was primarily composed of Jews who would sooner pour all the whiskey into the ocean than sell it to the Irish. Frank Aiello understood this perfectly, unconcerned about competition from the "White Hand," and Bill Lovett also understood this, worrying about his economic losses.

Targeted by the White Hand

On November 18, 1920, at a meeting of the White Hand gang, it was decided to rob the trucks carrying alcohol intended for Frank Aiello.
