Servando Gomez Martinez, a Mexican drug lord, was the founder and leader of one of Mexico's largest drug cartels, La Familia. The cartel is sometimes described as quasi-religious, as its current leaders refer to their killings and executions as "divine justice." La Familia began as a partnership with the Gulf cartel. Later, Martinez, along with Gonzalez, Mendosa, Vargas, Plancarte, Medina, Plancarte, Hernandez, and Barron, organized an independent drug cartel known as La Familia.

On March 23, 2009, the Mexican government offered a reward for the 24 major figures in the drug business in Mexico, offering a whopping two million USD for each drug lord.
