Early Life and Military Education

Franz Kublitsky was a Russian general-lieutenant who hailed from a Catholic family. He received his education at the Mikhailovsky Voronezh Cadet Corps, a prestigious military academy.

Entry into the Military

Kublitsky's military career commenced on September 1, 1876. He completed his training at the 2nd Konstantinovskoye Military School and graduated as a second lieutenant on April 16, 1878. He was assigned to the Life Guards Grenadier Regiment, a distinguished unit of the Russian Imperial Guard.

Promotions and Commands

Kublitsky steadily rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant colonel in 1885. He commanded a company in the 6th Life Guards Regiment and later a battalion in the 10th Life Guards Regiment. In 1902, he attained the rank of colonel. From 1907 to 1911, he served as commander of the Onega Infantry Regiment.

General's Rank and World War I

Kublitsky was promoted to general-major in 1911 and commanded the 1st Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division and the 2nd Brigade of the 37th Infantry Division. During World War I, he commanded the 2nd Finnish Rifle Division from August 21, 1915, to April 15, 1917.

Personal Life and Death

Kublitsky married the writer Alexandra Andreevna Beketova in 1889 and became the stepfather of the renowned poet Alexander Blok. Blok gifted his stepfather a copy of his collection "Poems about Russia" with an inscription dedicating it to "Franz, condemned to endure this vulgar war."

In 1918, Kublitsky and his wife settled in Petrograd and died there in 1920 due to pneumonia. He was laid to rest at the Smolenskoye Cemetery.
