Early Career: Telstar FC
Fred Dickxal began his footballing journey at Telstar FC. In the 1963/1964 season, he helped the team secure promotion to the Dutch Eredivisie. Dickxal made his Eredivisie debut on November 8, 1964, against GVVV. Despite Telstar's initial 2-1 lead, they ultimately lost 2-3. In the 1964/1965 season, Dickxal appeared in five matches and scored one goal against Fortuna '54.
The following season, Dickxal became a regular starter, playing 19 games and scoring one goal. During his time at Telstar, he shared the pitch with notable players such as goalkeeper Heinz Stuy and striker Ruud Geels.
Transfer to Ajax
In 1966, Dickxal joined the prestigious Ajax Amsterdam. However, he struggled to break into the starting lineup. He made his Ajax debut on August 21 in a 4-1 home victory over NAC. Dickxal came on as a substitute for Sjaak Swart in the 30th minute.
Dickxal's first start came on October 23 in a 3-1 home win over DOS. Unfortunately, that would be his last appearance for Ajax in the 1966/1967 season. Despite being on the transfer list for several years, Dickxal remained at Ajax until his contract expired in 1969.
