Swiss film scholar Michel Soutter initially pursued original creative pursuits. In 1948, he co-authored the play "Les Faux Nez" with Charles Apothéloz. Seven years later, he released the poetry collection "Contre-chants."
Prolific Writer on Cinema
Soutter's career transitioned to writing extensively about cinema. He produced numerous monographs on esteemed directors such as Daniel Schmid, Luis Buñuel, and Michel Mitrani. Additionally, he wrote comprehensive works on cinematic movements, including "La Nouvelle Vague" (1963) and "Le Cin?ma am?ricain 1955-1970" (1974).
Leadership in Swiss Cinema
From 1951 to 1996, Soutter served as the Director of the Swiss Cinémathèque in Lausanne. During the late 1960s, he co-directed the Locarno International Film Festival. In 1998, he received the festival's L?opard d'honneur award for his contributions to cinema.
