Soloist at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra
From 1864 to 1899, Gumpert served as the principal hornist of the prestigious Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In 1896, he became a founding member of the orchestra's renowned wind quintet.
Instrument Design
In collaboration with the instrument manufacturer Kruspe, Gumpert designed his own model of the horn, known as the "Gumpert." This model became widely recognized for its exceptional sound and craftsmanship.
Pedagogical Legacy
Professor at the Leipzig ConservatoryGumpert was an equally accomplished pedagogue. He taught at the Leipzig Conservatory of Music and Theater (formerly known as the Leipzig Royal Conservatory) from 1864 to 1898.
