Biography of Paul Badura-Skoda
Paul Badura-Skoda is an exceptional Austrian pianist whose remarkable talent was discovered in 1949 by conductors Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan at the Salzburg Festival. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday by embarking on a world tour, beginning with a performance at the Academic Chapel Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia. Accompanied by the acclaimed Russian ensemble, the Academic Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nikolay Alexeyev, Badura-Skoda performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 19.
Throughout his career, Badura-Skoda has gained a reputation as one of the best interpreters and scholars of the Viennese classical composers, particularly Mozart. As a result, his immortal piano concertos with orchestra were presented in Russia, including not only the 19th but also the 24th and 26th. It is worth noting that the coronation 26th concerto in Moscow and Novosibirsk was performed in the maestro's own edition, including the reconstruction of the final movement, which was previously lost and recreated by the pianist himself.
As part of his jubilee celebrations, Badura-Skoda will also perform in renowned venues in London, Paris, Vienna, New York, Tokyo, and Berlin.
