Johann Nepomuk Nestroy was an Austrian playwright and actor who lived from 1801 to 1862. He was widely celebrated in Vienna in his youth for his satirical plays and his flamboyant personality.

The Revolutionary

On March 15, 1848, Nestroy played a significant role in announcing the introduction of a constitution in Vienna. Riding horseback and accompanied by trumpeters, he proclaimed the news throughout the city, reflecting his popularity and civic engagement.

Playwright and Author

Nestroy's theatrical repertoire included numerous plays, such as "Hans Hasenkopf" (1835), "Wer wird Amtmann" (1840), "Palais und Irrenhaus" (1863), "Des Krämers Tächterlein" (1862), and "Pater Abraham a Sancta Clara." He also wrote the historical novel "Ein Plaffenfeben" and published memoirs entitled "Unter fünfzehn Theaterdirectoren" (1871).
