Early Life and Education
Türkan Füyruzan was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She completed her primary education in Yalova in 1946. Due to financial constraints, she was unable to continue her formal education.
Acting and Writing Career
Füyruzan pursued a career in acting and began writing in 1956. Her prolific writing period spanned from 1965 to 1972. In 1976, she published the collection "Yeni Konuklar," which consisted of interviews with Turkish migrant workers in Germany. The collection critiqued German capitalism while simultaneously highlighting the virtues of Turkish migrants.
Social Commentary in Her Works
Füyruzan's literary output primarily addressed social issues. Her first story was published in a magazine in 1956. Her works have been translated into English, Spanish, Italian, German, and French. For her novel "Parasız Yatılı" (Free Boarding), she received the Sait Faik Award for Literature in 1972.
Film Adaptation
In 1990, Gülşen Karamuustafa directed a film adaptation of Füyruzan's work "Benim Sinemalarım." The film starred Hülya Avşar and Yaman Okay.
Personal Life
Füyruzan was married to the cartoonist Turhan Selçuk, but they later divorced. They had a daughter, Aslı.
