Early Life and Education

Serzh Sargsyan was born in 1954 in Armenia. He received his education at the Armenian Agricultural Institute from 1967 to 1972, earning a degree in engineering technology.

Military and Early Career

After graduating, Sargsyan served in the Soviet Army from 1972 to 1973. He then worked as an engineer and designer at the Sisian branch of the "ArmElectrosvet" Production Association from 1973 to 1974.

Political Rise

Sargsyan's political career began in 1974 when he became the second secretary of the Sisian District Committee of the Komsomol, the youth wing of the Communist Party of Armenia. He held this position until 1978.

From 1978 to 1985, Sargsyan held various positions at the Yerevan Canning Factory, including shift manager, chief technologist, and party secretary.

Senior Government Roles

In 1985, Sargsyan became an instructor in the agricultural department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia. He held this position until 1990.

From 1990 to 1995, Sargsyan served as chief engineer and first deputy director of the "ArmKonserv" Production Association.

Parliamentary Career

Sargsyan's parliamentary career began in 1999 when he was elected as a deputy to the National Assembly. He became a member of the Standing Committee on Financial, Budgetary, and Economic Issues and served as secretary of the "Unity" parliamentary faction.

Leadership of the Control Chamber

From 2002 to 2007, Sargsyan served as the Chairman of the Control Chamber of Armenia. After stepping down, he became a member of the Control Chamber's council in 2007.
