Hajibala Abutalibov: A Versatile Statesman

Early Life and Education

Hajibala Abutalibov was born on May 13, 1944, in Krasnovodsk, Turkmenistan. His academic journey commenced at the Physics Faculty of the Azerbaijan State University, which he graduated from in 1965.

Career in Academia

Following his graduation, Abutalibov worked as a physics teacher and a methodologist in the Ordubad Region. In 1969, he enrolled in a doctoral program at the Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology in Leningrad. He obtained his Candidate of Science degree in 1976 and his Doctor of Science degree in 1987.

Scientific Contributions

Abutalibov's research primarily focused on quantum electronics in semiconductors. He became the Head of the Quantum Electronics of Semiconductors Laboratory at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1989.

Political Career

Abutalibov's transition into politics began in 1995 when he was appointed the Head of the Surakhani District Executive Authority in Baku. He held this position until 1999, when he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan.

Mayor of Baku

On January 30, 2001, Hajibala Abutalibov was appointed as the Mayor of Baku. He served in this capacity until 2018, overseeing the city's transformation and development.

Deputy Prime Minister

After his tenure as Mayor, Abutalibov was reappointed as Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan in 2018. In this role, he continues to play a significant role in shaping the country's policies and initiatives.
