Biography of Galen Rupp
Galen Rupp, a talented athlete specializing in middle-distance running, was born on May 8, 1986, in Portland, Oregon. From a young age, Rupp showed great promise and frequently broke youth records in America. Initially, he had aspirations of becoming a football player, but his potential was recognized by the legendary marathon runner Alberto Salazar, who became his coach.
High School Success
During his time at Portland's high school, Rupp set numerous records, including breaking Gerry Lindgren's previous record in the 5000-meter race by almost 7 seconds. He also established a new record among high school athletes in the 3000-meter distance.
College Career
After graduating from high school, Rupp joined the University of Oregon and made his professional debut in 2005 at the NCAA tournament, where he won a silver medal in the 10000-meter race. That same year, Rupp won the Junior Championship of the United States and several local tournaments. In 2008, Rupp competed in the Olympic trials for the 10000-meter race but finished in 13th place, setting a season record of 27 minutes and 36 seconds.
