Early Life and Career
Lisette Klaver is a Dutch track and field athlete who specializes in sprinting at 200 and 400 meters. Born on August 20, 1998, in Velsen-Zuid, Netherlands, Klaver began her track and field career at the age of 8 with Streker Atletiek Vereniging in Grootebroek.
Youth and Junior Career
In 2014, Klaver made her international debut in the 4 × 100 meters relay at the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA. The following year, she advanced to the 200 meters final at the 2015 European U20 Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden.
Professional Career
2017-2022Klaver won her first Dutch national indoor title in 2017, claiming victory in the 200 meters at the Dutch Indoor Athletics Championships in Apeldoorn. In 2018, she shifted focus to the 400 meters, winning the Dutch national indoor and outdoor 400 meters titles in 2019.
In 2020, Klaver became the first Dutch woman to break the 51-second barrier in the 400 meters, clocking 50.98 seconds at the Golden Gala in Rome, Italy. She subsequently represented the Netherlands at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, competing in the women's 400 meters and the women's and mixed 4 × 400 meters relays.
At the 2022 World Indoor Championships, Klaver took silver in the women's 4 × 400 meters relay and finished sixth in the women's 400 meters. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, she improved her outdoor best to 50.18 seconds and again won silver in the mixed 4 × 400 meters relay.
2023
In 2023, Klaver lowered her indoor 400 meters personal best to 50.34 seconds, the 13th-fastest mark in the world at the time. She claimed silver in the 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships and set a new personal best of 49.81 seconds in the 400 meters at the Silesia Athletics Diamond League meeting, becoming the first Dutch woman to break the 50-second barrier outdoors.
At the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Klaver played a crucial role in the Netherlands' victory in the women's 4 × 400 meters relay, running the second leg and setting a split time of 48.78 seconds.
2024
Klaver's strong indoor season in 2024 included victories at the Czech Indoor Gala and Copernicus Cup and a second-place finish at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais. She won the World Athletics Indoor Tour 400 meters title and claimed silver in the 400 meters at the 2024 World Indoor Championships.
