Hannibal Gisco

Hannibal Gisco was a Carthaginian general who fought in the First Punic War. In 262 BCE, he served as a commander at the Battle of Agrigentum. Later, he was appointed admiral of the Carthaginian fleet stationed at Panormus, Sicily.

Battle of Mylae and Aftermath

In 260 BCE, Hannibal Gisco engaged the Roman fleet under the command of Gaius Duilius at the Battle of Mylae. The Carthaginians suffered a crushing defeat, with Hannibal Gisco's flagship captured. He was forced to retreat to Carthage.

Catastrophic Defeat and Execution

Hannibal Gisco was subsequently sent to Sardinia to command the Carthaginian forces there. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, he lost a battle to the Romans. Upon hearing of this defeat, the Carthaginian government held him responsible and sentenced him to crucifixion. Hannibal Gisco and several other Carthaginian generals met their end on the cross as a result.
