Biography of Gaston Micheletti
Gaston Micheletti, a Corsican opera singer and tenor, was born in 1892 in Tavaco on the island of Corsica. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris and made his operatic debut in 1922 in Reims, a major city in the Champagne region of France. His first role was Faust in Gounod's opera.
In 1925, Micheletti signed a contract with the renowned Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he portrayed De Grie in Jules Massenet's opera "Manon." His success was immediate and overwhelming, as the audience responded warmly to the young and talented tenor. The Opéra-Comique became Micheletti's home stage for many years, until his retirement in 1945. He celebrated his 20th anniversary on this stage.
Throughout his career, Micheletti performed a wide range of roles, including Don José, Turiddu, Hoffmann, Gérald, Pinkerton, Canio, Werther, Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, Romeo, and many other famous opera characters. He also participated in premieres of forgotten French operas, showcasing his versatility and talent.
