Lieutenant General Ivan Ivanovich Veselitsky
Early Life and EducationIvan Ivanovich Veselitsky was a Lieutenant General of Russian ancestry. His family descended from Dalmatian princes, and his grandfather moved to Russia during the reign of Peter the Great. Veselitsky received his military education at the Artillery and Engineering Cadet Corps, where he graduated as a cadet on March 15, 1790.
Military Career
Veselitsky's military career began with participation in combat against the Swedes, where he earned a promotion to sub-lieutenant for his bravery. In 1792, he fought in the campaign against Polish confederates. In 1803, he became the commander of a battery company with the rank of captain.
From 1806 to 1812, Veselitsky fought against the Turks as part of the Moldavian army. His valor in the Battle of Rassevat in 1809 was recognized with the Order of St. George, 4th class. He received further promotions to lieutenant colonel in 1810 and colonel in 1811, commanding the 7th reserve artillery brigade.
In 1812, Veselitsky was appointed chief of artillery for the entire army, despite the presence of artillery generals. He held this position during the battles of Brest, Borisov, and the Berezina operation.
War against France
Veselitsky's military accomplishments continued in the war against France. In 1813, he received the Order of St. George, 3rd class, for his role in the siege and capture of the fortress of Thorn. He also distinguished himself in the battles of Königswartha and Bautzen, earning a promotion to Major General.
As commander of the artillery of Count A.F. Langeron's corps, Veselitsky participated in pivotal battles, including Katzbach, Leipzig, Soissons, and the capture of Montmartre.
Later Years
From 1817, Veselitsky served as chief of staff for the Separate Orenburg Corps. He was promoted to Lieutenant General on August 22, 1826, and continued to serve in the Russian army until his retirement.
