Gediminas Vičius: Lithuanian Midfielder with Remarkable Throw-Ins

Early Career and Breakthrough in Kaunas

Gediminas Vičius, a Lithuanian midfielder, emerged from the youth ranks of Kaunas. He began his professional career at second-tier club Kareeda before making a breakthrough at Kaunas. From 2008 to 2009, he represented Kaunas in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup, contributing to their Lithuanian successes.

Move to Kazakhstan and Success with Shakhter

In 2010, Vičius faced the prospect of joining Volga-Gazprom Astrakhan or Alania Vladikavkaz. However, he opted for Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan. Despite scoring five goals early in his debut season, an injury sidelined him.

The "Throw-In King" of Shakhter

Under new manager Viktor Kumykov in 2011, Vičius began utilizing his remarkable throw-ins. His powerful and accurate deliveries proved highly effective, resulting in numerous goals for Shakhter. That season, they claimed their maiden Kazakhstan Premier League title.

Vičius and Shakhter retained their championship in 2012, with the Lithuanian being named the club's best foreign player by fans. He also lifted the Kazakhstan Cup in 2013.

Lithuanian International Debut

Vičius made his debut for the Lithuanian national team in a qualifying match for the 2012 UEFA European Championship against the Czech Republic.
