Biography

Ariel Ortega is a famous Argentine football player, who was a former attacking midfielder for the Argentine national team. He began his career at the River Plate club and after spending several years in European clubs such as Parma, Valencia, and Sampdoria, Ortega returned to Argentina in 2004. He first played for Newell's Old Boys and then made a comeback to River Plate in 2006.

During the Clausura 2008 tournament, Ortega started facing problems with the new team coach, Diego Simeone, mainly due to his alcohol addiction and failure to follow the team's regimen. Despite winning the 33rd championship title, Ortega was expelled from the team in the middle of 2008. In the Apertura 2008 tournament, River Plate, the reigning champion, finished last in the 20th position.

Ortega then signed a one-year agreement with the Argentine Second Division club, Independiente Rivadavia. Simultaneously, he underwent treatment for alcohol dependency at a hospital in Chile. The choice of the team was influenced by the geographic proximity of the Mendoza province to Chile.
