Biography of Gennady Katsov

Gennady Katsov is a poet and writer who was born on February 13, 1956 in Yevpatoriya, Ukraine. He lived in Kherson before moving to Moscow in the early 1980s. In 1986, he became one of the organizers of the legendary Moscow club "Poetry". During the stagnant years, he organized a concert in the center of Moscow (GlavAPU) featuring poets such as D. A. Prigov, L. Rubinstein, V. Druka, and G. Katsov, as well as musicians S. Kurekhin, S. Bugaev (Africa), S. Letov, A. Kirichenko, and A. Shilkloper.

In 1988, Katsov became the director of the "Poetry" club, and he also became a member of the literary group "Epsilon-Salon". In 1989, he immigrated to the United States and began hosting regular broadcasts on contemporary culture on Radio Liberty's program "Beyond Barriers". He was also a regular contributor to the newspaper "Novoe Russkoe Slovo".

From 1994 to 1998, Katsov was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the youth New York weekly newspaper "Printed Organ". In 1995-1997, he was one of the founders and co-owners of the avant-garde Russian cafe "Anyway" in Manhattan. In 1997-1998, he served as the editor-in-chief of the "Guide to New York" (a quarterly publication with a circulation of 230,000, a joint project with "Aeroflot"). In 1997, he became a regular participant in the weekly Saturday program "Meeting with the Press" on the national television EAVS in New York.

From 1997 to 1999, Katsov hosted the weekly TV show "New York: History with Geography" on Dmitry Poletaev's program "Good Evening, America!" (national television EABC, New York). From 1998 to 2000, he hosted the weekly radio program "Morning Variety" on Russian-American radio RTN/WMNB. From 2000 to 2003, he was the editor-in-chief of radio RTN/WMNB. Since October 2000, he has been the author and host of the daily (except Saturdays and Sundays) 30-minute political-economic TV program "Not a Day Without a Line. Review of the American Press" on Russian-American television RTN/WMNB.

From 2000 to 2004, Katsov was the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine "Television Week" (Russian TV Guide). From 2004 to 2007, he served as the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine "Metro". Since March 17, 2003, he has been the author and host of the daily TV program "Morning Jog" (with correspondents from Israel, Great Britain, Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia) and the Sunday "Press Club" on the Russian-American national television channel RTN/WMNB.

Since spring 2010, Katsov has been the owner and editor-in-chief of the Russian-American news portal RUNYweb.com, which includes the Encyclopedia of Russian America. Since spring 2011, he has been working on the poetic project "SLOVOSFERA", which consists of texts dedicated to masterpieces of visual art. The project has not yet been published.
