Biography of Gennady Golovkin
Gennady Golovkin, the world champion in the 73 kg weight category, has once again proven himself to be the strongest in the 72.6 kg weight class by successfully defending his WBA championship title on November 3rd. In the eighth round, Golovkin secured victory over Curtis Stevens with a technical knockout. The American press, who closely follows each of Golovkin's fights, is surprised at where such an energetic charge for the fight comes from in this smiling guy with impeccable manners, and where he finds so much determination to win. Golovkin's trainer compares him to a sniper who takes a long time to target his prey before delivering a lethal blow. Indeed, Golovkin's tactics in the ring involve first observing his opponent, studying their weaknesses, and then, when the opportune moment arises, delivering a devastating blow. It is noteworthy that since 2008, none of Golovkin's opponents have lasted until the final bell. Gennady has had 28 fights in his professional career, winning all of them, with 25 ending in a knockout. Due to the highly entertaining nature of Golovkin's fights, they often attract a large number of fans and television viewers. In 2013, the television network ESPN named Gennady the "Best Boxer of the Half-Year," and the newspaper 'USA Today' called him the "most talked-about Kazakh since Borat." Boxing fans eagerly await matches between Golovkin and Sergio Martinez, Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, and Saul Alvarez. Someday, the Kazakh may step into the ring against one of them, but for now, his opponents are less well-known: Nobuhiro Ishida, Curtis Stevens, Grzegorz Proksa, and Matthew Macklin. Many experts rank Golovkin second among athletes in his weight category. The leading position is held by Argentine Martinez, a middleweight legend and holder of the WBC Diamond belt. Gennady Golovkin was born on April 8, 1982 in Karaganda. His father worked in a mine, and his mother was an assistant in a chemical laboratory. Two of Gennady's brothers died in the army under unexplained circumstances, and his third brother, Maxim, also became a boxer. He no longer competes at the professional level and now works in Gennady's team, helping him prepare for fights. When asked about his nationality, Gennady states that he considers himself one hundred percent Kazakh, despite his father being Russian and his mother being Korean. Gennady started boxing at a very young age and competed in his first regional tournament at the age of 11. His opponents were 3-4 years older than him, but despite the age difference, the future champion emerged victorious. Gennady's current trainer is Abel Sanchez. In the training gym in Big Bear, California, where Gennady resides, Sanchez hung a board on the wall with a list of the best boxers, in his opinion. He placed Muhammad Ali in first place, leaving the second spot empty, hinting that Gennady could claim it in the future. The coach is completely confident in his protégé. Before Golovkin's fight with Stevens, Sanchez said it would be a matchup between a world-class boxer and a boxer who is "above average." In principle, this turned out to be true, although Curtis Stevens apparently expected more. Several months before the fight, the American boxer posted a photo of a coffin with Golovkin's initials, indicating that he would destroy the Kazakh. In the bout between Golovkin and Stevens, the favorite was determined right away. In the second round, Gennady sent the American into a heavy knockdown, but Curtis proved to be tough enough to continue the fight. The outcome of the match was determined in the eighth round when Golovkin relentlessly pummeled Stevens. The boxer withstood the pressure, but his trainer did not allow him to continue in the next round, fearing for his health and life. However, it must be said that Golovkin is far from perfect as well. For example, in his last fight, he missed many punches and did not pay enough attention to defense. Relying solely on the power of his own punch is unwise, as a stronger and more experienced boxer can easily find openings and exploit them. Golovkin's next fight will be held in Monte Carlo on February 1st. Most likely, he will face a relatively unknown boxer, as otherwise the fight would be held in the United States. Little is known about Golovkin's future plans. The boxer says he wants to fight Martinez, and his promoter stated that the champion could move up to the 76.2 kg weight category for a fight with Andre Ward or Carl Froch, but only if a good purse is offered. There is no doubt that sooner or later, Gennady Golovkin will be offered such a purse.
