Early Career

Gennaro Iezzo, an Italian goalkeeper, began his career with the youth teams of various Italian clubs like Juventude Stabia, Scafatese, Avellino, and Nocerina.

Professional Debut with Hellas Verona

In 1997, Iezzo joined Hellas Verona but played only sparingly as the backup goalkeeper to Graziano Battistini, making just five appearances in two seasons.

Rise with Catania and Cagliari

Iezzo moved to Catania in 1999, helping the club earn promotion to Serie B in the 2001-2002 season. He later joined Cagliari in 2003, making two appearances in his first season and contributing to their promotion to Serie A.

Stardom at Napoli

Iezzo became a key player for Napoli in 2005, helping them gain promotion to Serie B in his debut season. He continued to excel in Serie B, conceding only 18 goals in 32 games and becoming the league's most miserly goalkeeper, leading Napoli to promotion to Serie A.

Injury Woes and Return

Iezzo remained Napoli's first-choice goalkeeper until January 2008, when a left knee injury sidelined him, with Matteo Gianello taking his place. He returned for the final three games of the season before losing his spot to Nicolas Navarro, who was acquired as his replacement.

Injuries and Retirement

In the following season, Iezzo suffered a nasal fracture and missed some time. However, he did manage to save a penalty kick from Milan's Kaká. Iezzo's last competitive appearance came in the 2009-2010 season, when he lost his starting spot to Morgan De Sanctis. Despite this setback, he extended his contract with Napoli for one more year before retiring.
