Heinrich August Schott(1780-1835) was a Protestant theologian known for his biblical supernaturalism.
Career and Influence
Schott became a professor of theology at the University of Halle in 1816 and later served as the director of the Franke Institutions. He published numerous works, including "Scripta varii argumenti maximam partem exegetici atque historici" (Halle, 1824).
Theological Views
Schott was an advocate of biblical supernaturalism, believing in the literal truth of the Bible and the miraculous events it described. He rejected the rationalist interpretations of the period, which sought to explain biblical events through natural causes.
Posthumous Recognition
Upon Schott's death, Johann Karl Wilhelm Thilo published his "Vorlesungen über die christliche Glaubenslehre" (Halle, 1827), which outlines his theological teachings. Schott's work continues to influence theological scholarship and biblical hermeneutics today.
