Georg Hermann Quincke, a German physicist, was born into a family of renowned medical practitioners. His father, Herman Quincke, and younger brother, Heinrich Quincke, were prominent German physicians. Quincke pursued his education at the universities of Berlin, Königsberg, and Heidelberg.

Academic Career

In 1859, Quincke became a private lecturer at the University of Berlin. By 1865, he had received the position of extraordinary professor of physics. In 1872, he was appointed ordinary professor of physics at the University of Würzburg. From 1875 onwards, Quincke taught at the University of Heidelberg.

Quincke's research encompassed various fields, notably capillarity and fluid mechanics. His studies on capillary phenomena, particularly measuring the weights of droplets, led to advancements in understanding surface tension.
