Early Career

James Edward Bonhag, an American athlete, first competed in the 1904 St. Louis Olympics in the 800m race, though his exact placement and time remain unknown. In the unofficial 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, he triumphed in the 1500m walk but also finished fourth in the 5-mile run and sixth in the 1500m.

Bonhag participated in two events at the 1908 London Games. He achieved a silver medal in the 3-mile team race but failed to progress beyond the semifinals in the 3200m steeplechase after an unsuccessful finish.

1912 Stockholm Olympics

In the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, Bonhag emerged victorious in the 3000m team race, a remarkable accomplishment. He also placed fourth in the 5-mile run but withdrew from both the individual and team cross-country events. Additionally, he showcased his athleticism in a demonstration baseball match, where his team defeated the Swedish national team in the sole game played.
