Biography of George Mikes
George Mikes was an English writer and humorist of Hungarian descent. He is best known for his humorous book "How to Be an Alien: A Handbook for Beginners and More Advanced Pupils".
Early Life and Education
George Mikes was born in the city of Siklós in 1912. After the death of his father, he moved with his mother to Budapest. He enrolled at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, where he obtained a degree in law.
Career
After completing his studies, Mikes worked as a journalist. In 1938, he was sent to London to cover the events surrounding the signing of the Munich Agreement. There, he found a job at another newspaper and decided to stay for the rest of his life.
Literary Works
Most of Mikes' books have a humorous tone, but he also wrote about topics such as concentration camps (1945) and the secret police in Hungary (1959). His witty observations and satirical writing style made him a popular author.
Personal Life
George Mikes was married twice and had a son from his first marriage and a daughter from his second marriage. He had a passion for cooking and enjoyed playing tennis.
