Early Life and Education
George Pau-Langevin was born on October 19, 1948, in Paris, France. She holds degrees from the University of Paris and the Panthéon-Assas University.
Political Career
Socialist Party and AdvocacyIn 1975, Pau-Langevin joined the Socialist Party. She worked as a lawyer and served as the president of the Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Between Peoples from 1984 to 1987.
Ministerial Appointments
In 2012, Pau-Langevin was appointed Minister Delegate for Education Success in the first Ayrault government. She held the same position in the second Ayrault government until its dissolution in 2014. In 2014, she became Minister of Overseas Territories in the first Valls government. She retained her portfolio in the second Valls government and served until her resignation in 2016 due to personal reasons.
National Assembly
Pau-Langevin served as a member of the Ile-de-France Regional Council from 1992 to 1998 and as a member of the Paris City Council from 2001 to 2007. She was elected to the National Assembly as a deputy from the 21st arrondissement of Paris in 2007 and from the 15th arrondissement in 2012. She temporarily suspended her parliamentary activities during her ministerial tenure.
Later Career
In 2016, Pau-Langevin returned to the National Assembly. She endorsed the candidacy of MEP Vincent Peillon in the 2017 Socialist Party presidential primaries. In the 2017 parliamentary elections, she was re-elected to the National Assembly with 60.29% of the votes, despite the overall decline of the Socialist Party.
