Life and Education

George S. Day is a leading expert in marketing and strategic management and a business process research scientist. Born in 1943, Day holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (1968).

Academic Appointments and Affiliations

Day is a Professor of Marketing and Co-Director of the Technological Innovation Management (TIM) Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has also taught at the International Management Development Institute (Lausanne, Switzerland), Stanford University, and the University of Toronto. He regularly lectures at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Business School, and London Business School.

Industry Experience

Prior to joining Wharton, Day was Executive Director of the Marketing Science Institute, a research consortium supporting the industry. He has consulted for numerous global corporations, including AT&T, Eastman Kodak, General Electric, IBM, U.S. West, Metropolitan Life, Marriott, Whirlpool Corporation, Molson Companies, Unilever, E.I. DuPont de Nemours, W. L. Gore and Associates, Boeing, LG Corp, and Medtronic.

Professional Leadership

Day has served as a director of the American Marketing Association, TL Contact Inc., and the Biosciences Research and Education Foundation. His research focuses on marketing, new technology management, organic growth strategies, organizational transformation, and global competitive strategies.

Day has authored 15 books on marketing and strategic management, including "Peripheral Vision: Detecting the Weak Signals that Can Make or Break Your Company" (2006), "Wharton on Dynamic Competitive Strategy" (1997), "Managing Emerging Technologies," and "The Market Driven Organization." He has also edited a special issue of the Journal of Marketing (with David Montgomery). His research has been published in Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Planning Review, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Sloan Management Review, and Strategy & Leadership.
