Early Life and Macedonian Uprising

Georgios Vogdantziotis was born in the mid-19th century in Bogdanci, Macedonia. In 1878, he participated in the spontaneous Macedonian uprising against Ottoman rule. After its suppression, he became a klepht (guerrilla fighter) in the regions of Florina and Kastoria.

Exile and Return

Pursued by Ottoman authorities, Vogdantziotis fled to Bulgaria in late 1878. He returned to Macedonia in April 1879 with a new band of klephts.

Klephtic Warfare

Vogdantziotis's band wore traditional Greek fustanella (skirt) and black scarves, but also included Bulgarians and Serbs who wore their own clothing. They attacked Turkish villages but were often forced to retreat.

Formation and Activities of "Macedonian Defense"

In 1904, Vogdantziotis joined the Greek organization "Macedonian Defense" and led his band in operations against Bulgarian bands in various regions.

Continued Struggles and Death

Vogdantziotis and his band continued to fight against Bulgarian and Ottoman forces until the Young Turk Revolution in 1908. After 1908, new Bulgarian bands appeared in Strumica and clashes resumed. Vogdantziotis was killed in a skirmish with Bulgarian bands in 1910.
