Early Life and Education
Georgiy Angelian was born on June 8, 1930, in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, USSR. In 1955, he graduated from the Yerevan State Medical Institute, laying the foundation for his illustrious career in medicine.
Academic and Research Achievements
Angelian pursued his academic journey by defending his dissertation in 1964, earning a Candidate of Medical Sciences degree. From 1965 to 1975, he conducted research at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Armenia. His groundbreaking work led to him becoming the head of the Society of Resuscitators and Anesthesiologists of Armenia from 1974 to 1995.
Career Highlights
In 1975, Angelian was appointed Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation at the Yerevan Medical Institute. He also served as the Chief Anesthesiologist-Resuscitator of the Ministry of Health of Armenia from 1975 to 1996. In 1998, he became a Full Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
Contribution to Armenian Healthcare
Angelian's unwavering commitment to improving healthcare in Armenia is evident in his numerous contributions. He played a pivotal role in establishing resuscitation services, a republican hyperbaric oxygenation program, and centers for the treatment of external poisoning. Notably, he pioneered the use of blood-absorbing fluids, plasmapheresis, and ultraviolet radiation therapy in Armenia.
Later Years and Legacy
From 1999 onwards, Angelian served as the Chief Anesthesiologist-Resuscitator of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. He authored several textbooks on anesthesiology and resuscitation, leaving behind a lasting legacy of knowledge and expertise.
Awards and Recognition
Angelian's exceptional work was acknowledged through numerous awards, including the Silver Medal of Ivan Pavlov (1999), the Silver Medal of Einstein (1999), the Gold Medal of Yerevan State Medical University (2001), and the Ehrlich Medal (2002).
Death
Georgiy Angelian passed away in 2012, leaving behind a remarkable legacy as a renowned doctor and a tireless advocate for advancements in healthcare.
