Early Life and EducationGeorgy Ivanovich Drozd was born on May 28, 1941, in Kyiv, Soviet Union. In 1963, he graduated from the Kyiv State Institute of Theatrical Arts named after Ivan Karpenko-Kary.
Theatrical Career
Drozd began his acting career on stage. He worked at the Odessa Russian Drama Theatre before joining the Riga Academic Theatre of Russian Drama in 1970. There, he made a significant impact, playing roles in Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and Pyotr Todorovsky's "Fidelity."
After a brief stint at the Sovremennik Theatre in Moscow, Drozd returned to Kyiv in 1981. He joined the Kyiv (now National) Academic Theatre of Russian Drama named after Lesya Ukrainka, where he became a beloved member of the ensemble. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of Ukraine in 1999 for his contributions to the theatre.
Film Career
Drozd made his film debut in 1961's "Happy Birthday." He went on to play memorable roles in films such as "Fidelity" (1965), "The Magic Circle" (1976), "Where Were You, Odysseus?" (1978), "Return in the Fall" (1979), "Private Person" (1980), "Lyudmila" (1982), "Charlotte's Necklace" (1984), "Mikhalilo Lomonosov" (1984), and "Awarded (Posthumously)" (1986).
In the 1990s and 2000s, Drozd continued to act in films and television series, often playing character roles. Notable appearances include "The Collapse" (1990), "War on the Western Front" (1990), "Bodyguard" (1991), "The Trap" (1993), "Empire of Pirates" (1994), "The Trace of the Werewolf" (2001), "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka" (2001), "Gold of Koljata" (2006), "The Tailor of My Happiness" (2006), "Heavy Sand" (2008), "Plato Angel" (2010), and "The House with Lilies" (2014).
Personal Life
Drozd was married twice. His first wife, Lyudmila Kurortnik, was an actress. They had a son, Maxim Drozd, who also became an actor.
His second wife, Anastasia Serdyuk (Bunina), is also an actress. They had a daughter, Klavdia Drozd, who followed in her parents' footsteps.
Legacy
Georgy Drozd passed away on June 10, 2015, at the age of 74. He is remembered as a talented and versatile actor who made significant contributions to both theatre and film in Ukraine.
