Early Life and EducationBorn in Petrograd, Russia, the renowned physicist embarked on his academic journey at the prestigious Petrograd Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1923.

After obtaining his degree, he became a professor at the Polytechnic Institute. In 1941, he joined the A.F. Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Leningrad.

His groundbreaking research spanned various fields of physics, including electronics, electromagnetic wave propagation, and mathematical physics. His contributions earned him the Stalin Prize of the Second Degree in 1949.
