Academic and Professional Profile

Dr. Oleh Turiyis a prominent Ukrainian historian, Professor, and the Head of the Department of Modern History and Politics at the Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He serves as a Professor at the Department of History at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Education and Research

Dr. Turiy graduated from the Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute in 1983 and completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1993, he obtained his doctoral degree in historical sciences. Dr. Turiy has undertaken research fellowships at renowned institutions such as Harvard University, Cambridge University, and the University of Helsinki.

Teaching Career

Dr. Turiy has held teaching positions at prestigious universities worldwide. He has taught at Helsinki University, Harvard University, Kyiv National University имени Т. Шевченко, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, European Humanities University (Vilnius), Freie Universität Berlin, University of Basel, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Other Affiliations

Dr. Turiy has served as the Director of Educational Programs at the International Renaissance Foundation (2000-2013). Currently, he is the Director of the Institute for Educational Development Charity Fund and the President of the International Association of Humanists. He is also a member of the supervisory boards of several academic journals, including Ukrainskyi Humanitarnyi Ohliad, Journal of Ukrainian Studies, and Polish Historical Review.

Research Interests

Dr. Turiy's research focuses on the modern history of Ukraine. He has critically examined the tendency to rewrite Ukrainian history within the framework of a classical national narrative and the integration of historian Mykhailo Hrushevsky's historical schema into Ukrainian intellectual discourse.

Publications

Dr. Turiy has authored numerous publications in Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, English, German, and Finnish. His research has significantly contributed to the understanding of Ukrainian history and historiography.
