Early Life and Education
Geogriy Korotkov, a renowned Ukrainian artist specializing in decorative and applied arts, was born on November 17, 1923, in Mariupol, Ukraine. His artistic journey began at the tender age of six. Korotkov honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed mentors, including N.I. Nikaro-Karpenko and Nikolai Bendrik. While pursuing his studies at the Moscow Institute of Engineers in 1954, Korotkov was compelled to abandon his education following the tragic loss of his father. He subsequently graduated from the Zhdanov Metallurgical Institute in 1962.
Professional Career
Korotkov embarked upon a multifaceted career, working at the Ilyich and Azovмаш factories while actively engaging in inventive pursuits. His ingenuity earned him the prestigious "Inventor of the USSR" badge and a medal from the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh).
Artistic Transformation
In the 1970s, Korotkov's artistic focus shifted towards carving, bas-reliefs, and sculpture, primarily utilizing cedarwood as his medium. His exceptional talent and dedication culminated in the recognition of his artistry. In 1991, he was bestowed the esteemed title of "Master of Decorative and Applied Arts of Ukraine."

The legacy of Geogriy Korotkov's artwork lives on through the eponymous gallery established in Mariupol in 1997. The gallery houses an impressive collection of 65 masterpieces, each meticulously carved from monolithic wood. Among the notable works on display are:
