Early Life and EducationGerður Helgadóttir was born in Iceland and attended the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts for her artistic training. After graduating, she traveled abroad to Paris and Florence, where she honed her skills and gained exposure to international art scenes.
Style and Inspiration
Known primarily as a sculptor, Gerður has also worked as a mosaic and glass artist. Her sculptures are characterized by their geometric iron forms and abstract designs, inspired by the teachings of master sculptor Sigurjón Ólafsson.
Monumental Works
Gerður's monumental works include the stained-glass windows of Reykjavík's Hallgrímskirkja cathedral. She also created the windows for churches in Kópavogur, Ólafsvík, and Skálholt.
