Germán Larrea Mota-Velasco is the Chairman and CEO of Grupo México, a global corporation engaged in the extraction of valuable minerals such as copper, silver, and zinc, as well as the management of the largest railway in Mexico. Grupo México is currently the largest mining corporation in Mexico and the third-largest in the world among the largest copper mining companies. Germán Larrea Mota-Velasco was born into a wealthy family and grew up with a strong interest in the mining industry. In 1988, his father, George Larrea, founded Grupo México with the intention of acquiring key mining sites in Mexico, particularly copper mines, as well as other mining assets such as coal mines. By the year 2000, Grupo México had taken responsibility for producing 87.5% of Mexico's copper, becoming the third-largest copper producer in the world.
