Biography of George Zamfir
George Zamfir is a Romanian musician known for playing the modernized version of the Romanian national instrument, the pan flute (nai). The instrument consists of 20-30 tubes with an expanded range of sound and a larger number of tones.
Early Career
George Zamfir began performing in front of a wide audience in the 1960s, thanks in part to Swiss musician Marcel Cellier, an explorer of Romanian folk music. In the 1980s, his performances were broadcasted on CNN. However, he received his first award for his stage performances as early as 1959.
Writer and Artist
In addition to his musical career, George Zamfir has also showcased his talents as a writer and artist. He has published poems, essays, and autobiographical books, and has exhibited his own paintings both in Romania and abroad.
Family and Recognition
George Zamfir's son is also a musician. His music can be heard in the Australian film "Picnic at Hanging Rock" as well as in many Hollywood movies, including "Once Upon a Time in America" and "Kill Bill." He also played the pan flute in the film "The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe."
