Early Life and Education
Born in Italy, Giancarlo Abete attended the prestigious Massimo Classical Lyceum in Rome. He later graduated from the University of La Sapienza in Rome with a degree in economics and trade.
Business Ventures
Abete pursued entrepreneurial endeavors in the fields of printing, publishing, and information. He held leadership positions in various companies within the Abete Group.
Political and Industrial Affiliations
Abete was an active member of the Christian Democratic Party. He served as a deputy in the Italian Parliament for three terms from 1979 to 1992, sitting on various parliamentary commissions. From 1994 to 2000, he was president of the Union of Industrialists of Rome and Lazio. He also held the presidency of Federturismo, the National Federation of Tourism and Travel Industry, from 1999 to 2003.
Football Administration
Abete's passion for football led him to several leadership roles in the sport. In 1989, he became head of the Technical Sector of the Italian Football Federation. Subsequently, he served as vice-president of the Italian Football Federation from 1996 to 2006.
Presidency of the Italian Football Federation
On April 2, 2007, Abete was elected president of the Italian Football Federation, receiving an overwhelming majority of votes. During his tenure, he oversaw the sport's growth and development in Italy.
