Early Career

Italian racing driver Gabriele Tarquini began his motorsport journey in 1973, competing in the Italian Formula Abarth series. He emerged as champion in 1974, followed by a runner-up finish in the Italian Formula 3 championship in 1975. That same year, he made his debut in the European Formula 3 championship.

Formula 3 Success

In 1976, Tarquini competed in a full season of European Formula 3, securing victories at Mantorp and Vallelunga. His impressive performances earned him the bronze medal in the championship.

Formula 2 and Sports Car Racing

Tarquini transitioned to the Formula 2 championship in 1977 and 1978, while also participating in the European Sports Car Championship.

Formula 1 Attempts

In 1979, Tarquini made two unsuccessful attempts to qualify for the Formula 1 World Championship with Kauhsen. He also participated in the Monaco Grand Prix that year, driving for Merzario, but again failed to make the grid.

Touring Car Victories

Tarquini later turned his attention to touring car racing, competing in vehicles from Alfa Romeo, BMW, and Volvo. He achieved three victories between 1982 and 1984.

European Touring Car Champion

In 1985, Tarquini triumphed as the European Touring Car Champion. Following his success, he moved to sports car racing, joining the TWR team.

Silverstone Success

Tarquini joined Brun Motorsports in 1987 and claimed a silver medal in the 24 Hours of Daytona that year. He returned to touring car racing, becoming the Italian Touring Car Champion in 1988.

Later Career

Tarquini continued to race in various sports and touring car events until 1999.
