Biography of Gianluca Terranova
Gianluca Terranova, an Italian tenor, is one of the most sought-after lyric tenors today. He is known for his warm Italian timbre, excellent ease of sound in the upper register, and extraordinary acting abilities. Born in Rome, Gianluca initially studied piano before pursuing a career in music.

Early Career
During his early days, Gianluca participated in numerous projects in musical theater and television as a performer, composer, and arranger. He made his professional debut in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Rome, and soon added operas such as Falstaff, Madama Butterfly, Nabucco, Les contes d'Hoffmann, Mavra by Igor Stravinsky, Il pirata, and Gina by Francesco Cilea to his repertoire.

Success as the Duke of Mantua
In 2008, Gianluca's interpretation of the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at the Arena di Verona, conducted by Renato Palumbo, was a great success and received favorable reviews. Since then, he has gained a reputation as one of the most interesting performers in this role. Interestingly, Gianluca's success was somewhat accidental, as he stepped in at the last minute to replace an ill colleague.

Continued Success and International Performances
In 2010, Gianluca repeated his success by making his debut as the Duke of Mantua at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, conducted by James Conlon. In the same year, he debuted in Rigoletto at the Los Angeles Opera, also under the direction of James Conlon. Gianluca has also performed the role of the Duke on the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival.

Gianluca is considered one of the leading Italian tenors in operas such as La Bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Traviata, as well as bel canto masterpieces like Figlia del reggimento or Roberto Devereux, which he debuted at the Rome Opera in 2010.
Later Career and Recognition
In 2011, Gianluca performed in La Traviata in Venice, Rigoletto in Tenerife, and debuted as Arturo in I puritani on the Lombardy Lyric Circuit and as Faust in La Damnation de Faust in Palermo.
In 2012, Gianluca participated in the productions of Lucia di Lammermoor in Naples and La Bohème in Venice. He also sang Alfredo in La Traviata at the first 'Opera on Sydney Harbour' festival and was nominated for a Helpmann Award for this role. Additionally, in 2012, he performed in Rigoletto in Venice, La Traviata in Hong Kong, and appeared in the TV movie Caruso, la voce dell'amore, playing Enrico Caruso. He released his first CD, Gianluca Terranova canta Caruso, in October 2012 under the EMI label.
In 2013, Gianluca performed La Bohème in Sydney and Amsterdam, Rigoletto in Palermo, Warsaw, and at the Arena di Verona. Later in the year, he is set to sing the roles of Gabriele in Simon Boccanegra in Turin and Tebaldo in I Capuleti e Montecchi at the Philharmonic Theatre of Verona.
Gianluca's future plans include performing Alfredo in La Traviata in Leipzig in 2014 and the Duke of Mantua in Sydney and Melbourne. In 2015, he will reprise the role of Alfredo in Liège and participate in La Traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
