 Childhood and Education

Born Myrna Carmen Bianchi on October 11, 1961, in Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires, Gilda was named after the iconic film character played by Rita Hayworth. However, her parents' official request to use the name "Gilda" was denied, and she was given the nickname, which she later adopted as her stage name.

After completing high school, Gilda pursued studies to become a physical education teacher. However, at the age of 17, tragedy struck when her father passed away, forcing her to leave her education to support her family.

Marriage and Music

At the age of 24, Gilda wed the young impresario Raúl Cagnin, but the marriage ended in separation after several years. They had two children together, Mariel and Fabrizio.

Driven by a passion for music, Gilda's life took a significant turn at 28 when she won a competition to become the lead singer of a musical group. There, she met Toto Gimenez, a composer and keyboardist who became her musical collaborator and romantic partner.

Solo Career and Rise to Stardom

In 1992, encouraged by Gimenez, Gilda embarked on a solo career. She recorded the album "De Corazón a Corazón" with the local label Magenta. Her breakout album "Pasito a Pasito" was released in 1994 and featured the hit single "No Me Arrepiento De Este Amor."

Gilda's popularity soared, and her dance music reverberated throughout Argentina and beyond. However, a tragic event would cut her life short.

Tragic Accident and Legacy

On September 7, 1996, while touring to promote her album "Corazón Valiente," Gilda's van was involved in a fatal collision with a truck on Route No. 12. She was killed along with her mother, daughter Mariel, and three bandmates. Miraculously, her son Fabrizio and Toto Gimenez survived.

Gilda's death sent shockwaves through the music industry and her fans. Posthumously, she won the Gardel Award for "Best Female Tropical Singer."

Her music and image continue to live on in the Argentine television series "Wild Angel," starring Natalia Oreiro. In 2016, a biographical film titled "Gilda, no me arrepiento de este amor" (Gilda, I Do Not Regret This Love) was released, with Oreiro portraying Gilda.
