Biography of Rebekah Del Rio

Rebekah Del Rio (born July 10, 1967) is a Latin American singer and songwriter. Her musical career, as seen in David Lynch's film "Mulholland Drive," began when she was just eleven years old. Del Rio's most unique style was showcased in her most famous song, the beautiful ballad "Llorando," a Spanish version of Roy Orbison's "Crying." The song combined Del Rio's Latin roots with the influence of renowned singers such as Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt, Vikki Carr, and Karen Carpenter.

In 1994, thanks to this song alone, Rebekah relocated to Nashville, where she secured a contract with Irving Azoff's "Giant Records." Shortly after Rod Stewart's performance at the 25th annual WEA conference, Del Rio released her first album, "Nobody's Angel." The titular song was featured on a WEA compilation album and reached second place in the Dutch charts.

Del Rio's next project was a recording for James Stroud at the Nashville branch of "Dreamworks." Around the same time, she landed an important role in the comedy film "The Next Big Thing." Later, David Lynch invited Rebekah to play herself in his surrealist homage to Los Angeles, "Mulholland Drive." Del Rio's performance was simply outstanding, earning high praise from critics. John Powers of "L.A. Weekly" called her a "dazzling rising star," while Gregory Weinkauf of "The New York Times" described her as "uniquely distorted" and "extremely enchanting." Lynch himself described working with Del Rio as a "happy accident," and Rebekah claimed that collaborating with Lynch was like a dream. She even wrote a song for Lynch and later worked on his internet series "Rabbits" with Naomi Watts, which eventually became part of Lynch's project "Inland Empire."

At the twelfth annual Rainforest Foundation Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall, Del Rio's a cappella rendition of "Llorando" received a standing ovation from the audience. Immediately after, Rebekah, along with Sting, Elton John, and James Taylor, adorned sombreros and Del Rio performed the classic 60s song "La Bamba." Currently, Rebekah is creating music for her Los Angeles-based music company, "Baja Basement Music."
