Gilles Dauvé: A Pioneer of Left Communism and Communization
Gilles Dauvé was a prominent French thinker who made significant contributions to the development of left communist and communization theories.
Collaboration and Criticism with Leftist Movements
In collaboration with François Martin and Karl Nesic, Dauvé sought to critically analyze and advance the ideologies of various left communist movements. This included the likes of Bordigism, the Dutch-German Council Communism, the "Socialisme ou Barbarie" group, the Situationists, and the experiments of autonomists.
Forgotten Theories and the Rise of New Leftism
Dauvé emphasized the importance of studying these often-overlooked theoretical currents to gain insights into the decline of the "Old Left" and the rise of "New Left" movements in the 1960s. He argued that their neglected ideas held relevance for understanding contemporary political struggles.
The Communist Movement and Communization
In the journal "Le Mouvement Communiste," Dauvé developed a new communist program. He further elaborated these ideas in "La Banquise," a magazine he edited with Karl Nesic and others from 1983 to 1986. Dauvé's work aimed to reimagine communism beyond the dominant paradigms of his time.
