Early Life and Education
Gleb Nikanovich Cherdantsev was born on August 4, 1885, in the city of Omsk. He graduated from the Tashkent Gymnasium and later the Economics Department of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute in 1909.
Career in Government and Academia
In 1914, Cherdantsev began working in the Department of Agriculture and State Property of the Turkestan Region. In 1918, he played an active role in organizing Tashkent People's University and became its first rector. He also headed the university's Faculty of Social Sciences from 1924 onwards.
Cherdantsev served in various capacities in the State Planning Committee (Gosplan) of different Soviet republics, including as Vice Chairman of Gosplan in the Khorezm People's Socialist Republic and Chairman of Gosplan in the Bukhara People's Socialist Republic. From 1924 to 1929, he worked in the Gosplan of the USSR.
Academic Career
In 1936, Cherdantsev earned his Doctorate in Economics. He became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR in 1943 and a full member (Academician) in 1956. In 1955, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan.
Honors and Legacy
Cherdantsev passed away on December 5, 1958, in Moscow. He was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. His contributions to geography, economics, and cartography continue to be recognized and studied today.
